accident auto Delano, Reece LEG CRUSHED UNDER AUTO TRUCK
Reece Delano, Secretary of the Marysville Mfg. Co., was the victim of an unfortunate accident at about 5:15 Wednesday afternoon when he had his left knee badly bruised by being run over by an empty auto truck. Mr. Delano was riding with John Hilton on J. D. Robinson's Truck when he stepped off as it was slowing up near his home on the corner of State and Fourth. In some manner he missed his footing and his leg slipped under the truck, the rear wheel passing over it slantingly over the calf and the thick part of the knee joint. He was carried to the Crain home and Dr. Munn was there within a few minutes. A careful examination disclosed no bones broken, although very painful lacerations on account of the cement pavement.
anniversary 50th Stahl, Joseph C. Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Stahl observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary, Sunday, 3 Mar at their home on Fifth street having been married in Algona Ia, 3 Mar 1868. Those helping them celebrate the occasion were immediate relatives: Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Conrad and family, Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Stahl and sons, Mrs. Mary Stahl, Mrs Harriet Tallman, and Mr and Mrs. R. E. Davidson. Although this was the smallest for years of our family gatherings. John, the eldest son being in Alaska, another son in California, and Lorenzo and wife and son in Centralia being unable to attend on account of bad roads, the day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present. Thos not feeling capable of telling jokes on the bride and groom did their part by encouraging the older ones present.
Only the thot (sic) of being our parents' fiftieth anniversary justified us in going so strong against Mr. Hoover's suggestions in the dining room.
death Kirkby, Martha Obituary: Mrs. Martha Kirkby was born in Meigs County, OH, 23 Oct 1849, and died in her home at Sunnyside, 3 Mar 1918, age 68 years, 4 months and 8 days.
At the age of 17 years she removed from Ohio to Minnesota, where she lived for 17 years. There, 11 Dec 1877, she was united in marriage with John Kirkby. Seventeen years ago they came to Washington and have resided continuously near Marysville. Mr. Kirkby passed away 4 years ago.
At 14 years of age she joined the Christian church. After marriage she joined the Methodist church, of which she has been a consistent member. Altho her health did not permit her to take active work in the church, she has lived a devoted christian life, her every thought seeming to be for others before self. She was a loving mother and devoted wife. Her last days have been full of pain, but with all there has been a spirt of patience and resignation in waiting until her 'change should come.'
She leaves to mourn her death one daughter, Mrs. Lula Wolcott of Sunnyside, two brothers and one sister in Ohio, one sister in Kentucky and a host of other relatives and friends in the east.
