A little history of the Chambersburg High School.

The location of the Chambersburg High School Building has been the site of local education since 1798. At that time the Chambersburg Academy was established, the land having been donated by Captain Benjamin Chambers. The first building was a brick structure, probably the first brick school house in Franklin County.

The Chambersburg High School had its beginning in 1856. There was a separate school for girls and for boys. In 1893, the two schools were united. The first Principal of the united school was Professor Hockenberry.

	Be Good."

DONALD BURKE "Burkie" Commerical

Glee Club 3; Senior Play; Declamation Contest 3.

may be there’s a particular reason.

ANNA LUCILLE CASSEDAY "Tete" Commercial

If her tongue could go as fast as her fingers do on the typewriter, she surely would be

MARY ELLEN EBERSOLE "Lala" Commercial

Spanish Club 3,4; Parrot Staff 4; Commerical Club 4.

good humor are very contagious. She evidently believes, "Smile and the World Smiles

	with You."

WILSON H. ELDER "Will" Commercial

	Commercial Club 4.

One of the larger members of ‘31--we mean in stature and mind both. Wilson is our pet

	on top of the world."

HELEN ELIZABETH ENGLERTH	"Helen" Classical

Dramatic Club 4; Regular Choir 3,4; Operetta 4.

And here we have the pretty maiden, who just couldn’t remember those history dates; she

wailed, and she moaned. But Bravo ! She’s through.

JOHN FRANKLIN ETTER "Johnny"	Scientific

Glee Club 1; Hall Squad 4.

DOROTHY JANE FREY "Dot" Commercial

Spanish Club 4; Commercial Club 4; Book Club 4; Parrot Staff, Literary Department 4.

Vain? Yes, pleasingly so. Dorothy’s vocabulary is the largest in school (excepting the

	a reason."

ALBERT H. FUNK "Funkey" Commercial

	Hi-Y Club 2,4; Attendance Squad 2; School Play 3.

Never can you pass her house that her smile does not cheer you on your way.

LEE EBY GROVE "Skipper"	Scientific

JOHN WILBUR HERR "Johnny"	Commercial

Commercial Club 4; Spanish Club 3; Parrot Staff, Commercial Editor 4.

Look out girls, here is a sheik, for his smile cannot be beat. When he casts his looks

your way, all your bright thoughts fade away.

ERMA ISABEL HIGH "Erma" Commercial

Spanish Club 3; Commercial Club 4; Echo Staff, Secretary.

She brings laughter to her classmates; She’s jolly through and through; And when it

comes to lessons -- well, she knows them too.

THELMA MAE HOLLENSHEAD "Ted" Commercial

Spanish Club 4; Dramatic Club 1,2,3; Commercial Club 4.

If you hear a whisper and a giggle, you may know Thelma is around. If she were

serious for a minute, we would think something had happened.

DAVID HOLLAR "Dave" Commercial

	Hi-Y Club 3.4; Basket Ball 1,2,3,4, Captain 4; Football 1,2,3,4, Captain 4.

"Davy" is a star in both basket ball and football. His good sportsmanship and his

ability as an athlete have won him the honor of being captain in both of these sports.

ADELEINE HOLLINGER "Holly" Classical

Glee Club 2,3,4; Dramatic Club 2,3; Parrot Staff 3,4.

Who says that there isn’t a "Sweet Adaleine" in the class of ‘31. She is very

pleasant and not at all hard to look at. "Sweet Adaleine, won’t you be mine?"

EVELYN RUTH HORN "Evie" Classical

French Club 4; Dramatic Club 4; Office Squad 4.

We don’t hear much from Evelyn around C.H.S; she prefers her home, where she can prepare

her lessons. Her motto is "Begone Dull Care." N’est-ce pas, Evelyn?

MARK EUGENE HOSTETTER "Mark" Scientific

	Hi-Y Club 4.

Little does he say, but he is a firm booster of all activities of the class and school.

We predict a great future for "Dick" as an animal trainer. You ask us why? Because he

has so successfully made our "Parrot" talk. This isn’t his only accomplishment though,

he is also one of our star actors.

PEARL MILDRED HUNSECKER "Pearl" Scientific

Glee Club 4; Dramatic Club 4.

	One of the senior boys said that girls don’t talk much.  We wonder if he still thinks so;

if he judges by Pearl, he does. Well-great thoughts are with one who is silent.

This cherry young chap who pounds out marches for the senior and freshmen chapel is

another of ‘31’s versatile members. He has been on the Parrot and Echo Staff, sings,

dances, and is fond of all sports.
